The Zagreb Zonta Club was established in May 1994 after
almost a year of preparations. This was a time when a third
of Croatia's territory was occupied, several thousand Croatian
soldiers and citizens had been slain, tens of thousands were
wounded, and hundreds of thousands had been expelled from their
own homes. There was a war in Croatia. Since Zonta International,
as a rule, does not open new clubs under wartime circumstances,
it took a lot of persuasion and arguments to make an exception.
We, the members of the Zagreb Zonta Club, learned fast and
made the best possible efforts to prove worthy of the trust
that had been placed in our Club.
The Charter on Admission to Zonta International was personally conferred
by Sonja Renfer, then the International President, and the ceremony was attended
by other prominent Zontians, such as France de la Chaise Mutin, past International
President, Cornelia Klauser Reucker, then the European Governor, Daniel Bridel,
the permanent representative of Zonta International with the UN, and Eda Rainer,
then the president of the Graz Zonta Club, the Club that acted as our sponsor
and mentor during the period of our preparations and the first few months of
our work.
The Zagreb Zonta Club currently has 21 members from a wide variety of
professions, including managers, entrepreneurs, physicians, IT experts, musicians,
university professors, translators, civil servants, marketing and public relations
experts, language teachers, directors of various institutions, etc.
The Zagreb Zonta Club accepts new members at the invitation
and proposal of another Club member, and with the unanimous
consent of all other members. Enthusiasm, talent, dedication
and commitment of each and every member constitute the essence
of our engagement in the establishment of ties between general
ZI objectives and the objectives of our local communities.
After Dubravka Majic Trzun, the first charter president and
the founder of the Zagreb Zonta Club, the position of club
president was held by Darija Frank, Aleksandra Selak-Zivkovic
and Andrea Maceljski.
The current members of the Board of Directors are Gordana
Cerjan-Letica (Chairwoman), Slavica Jelic (Deputy Chairwoman),
Jasmina Lukac Havranek (Deputy Chairwoman), Vesna Mihanovic
(Secretary), Vesna Besenic-Kolic (Cashier), Andrea Maceljski
and Zdenka Kolic-Kocmur (Board members). |
